We currently have installed MySQL4.1 which has reached EOL (End of Life) some time ago, this means no further updates/fixes are being made to this version by the makers of the product.
To ensure we are running that latest version and to be able to receive the level of vendor support we require we are currently proposing to upgrade MySQL4.1 to MySQL 5.x and plan to do an "in-place" upgrade i.e the existing MySQL instance will be upgraded to the current stable 5.x release version on the day we perform the upgrade.
We appreciate that some customers may have applications which may not work, or have not been tested under the latest version of MySQL and are providing this advance notification to enable time to test applications and make any upgrades that may be required.
We also appreciate this is a busy time of year for everyone and not everyone may have time to test their applications, for those who need assistance we will try and help as much as possible and we will shortly making available a test mySQL 5.x installation for those customers unable to test themselves and we will assist in copying your production database over to the test server if required.
We currently plan to conduct this upgrade in approximately 30 days time.
As always we appreciate any feedback you may have regarding this decision.
